Wine trends, 2022
The Wine Trade Monitor (in its ninth year) presents a study conducted with over 1000 industry operators that offers an overview of global trends and commercial prospects for wine for the next two years.
- There is optimism for the wine trade. France, Italy and Spain are doing well , and are also making a name for themselves in China and Japan. Portuguese wines are growing, while interest in Australian ones seems to be waning.
- If France always shines in terms of image, Italy's wine industry is increasing its reputation on the international scene, especially among young people.

News on PIWI vines
From January, green light for PIWI resistant vines also in Designations of Origin. This was announced by Attilio Scienza at the award ceremony of the first Piwi wine competition organized in San Michele all'Adige by the Mach Foundation: PIWI can therefore be included in the disciplines of designations of origin, including Italian ones, in the regions that have already authorized them, which are the minority.
Mourning in the world of wine
On 6 December, Andrea Franchetti died, a winemaker known as "the philosopher of wine", founder of the Tenuta di Trinoro, in Valdorcia, Passopisciaro in Sicily, as well as promoter of the "Le Contrade dell'Etna" festival.
