NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 straw yellow with greenish highlights;

👃🏻 the nose reveals fruity aromas, with a nice hint of Williams pear, together with vinous aromas, and then iodine, with white stone and balsamic notes such as thyme, mint and sage;

👄 the palate is very fresh and savoury, with a good body. Vibrant, drinkable but intense and direct.

FOOD PAIRINGS

Vitovska Grganja is a medium-bodied wine with great freshness. Because of this last aspect in particular, it goes well with snacks of cold cuts and cheese or with main courses of pork meat flavoured with spices.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Vitovska Classica is obtained by 3-day maceration with the skins and is then aged in steel and cement. The soil gives the grapes, and therefore the wine, a distinct salinity. If consumed immediately, this wine is at first straightforward and very fresh, to express more evolved notes with time.

YOU WILL LOVE IT...

for its great freshness.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are in the Karst region between Slovenia and Italy, an area characterised by the presence of karst, i.e. bare rocky surfaces and depressions. All this constitutes an important limitation for agriculture. In addition, the Karst is characterised by the presence of caves and caverns, which help to ensure that all the rainwater drains away in a short space of time, only part of which is retained by the scarce red soil of the Karst. This type of terroir gives the wines compact and deep colours, intense and varied aromas, mineral sensations, good structure and decidedly long-lived products. Finally, the Karst is also famous for its bubbles. Local wine-growing has a great tradition in the production of sparkling wines: Prosecco, a village in the province of Trieste that gives its name to the well-known wine, or Prosekar in the Slovenian version, was actually a sweet wine in the early days, before becoming the sparkling wine that we have known since the 19th century. Over time, local production declined and only recently have efforts been made to recover it. The production of quality sparkling wines using both the Charmat method and the Classical Method is therefore recent. The varieties grown are mainly Malvasia, Vitovska, Terrano and Refosco.

WINERY

The winery is located in the Karst, a region that continues in Italy's wine-making (and other) tradition of absolute continuity. In the winery, the winemaking tradition has been handed down from generation to generation for over 400 years, with newly planted vineyards and others over 50 years old, totalling around 15 hectares under cultivation. The Tavčar family, who have their vineyards in the village of Križ, have received many awards for their Teran, Vitovska grganja and Malvasia wines. Their Teran, in particular, was elected 'Champion 2016', while their Merlot 2012 was 'Champion of the Karst Wine Road'. Teran is a very special wine: the starting grape is Refosco, which only when grown in the typical red soil of this area gives life to the typical wine.

Un bianco corposo

Un bianco decisamente corposo. Dal palato deciso. Ha accompagnato molto bene antipasti caldi misti. Da avere in casa.
