NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 intense ruby red with purple violet reflections;

👃🏻 the nose expresses a fruity bouquet (blackberry and cherry), complemented by mineral notes;

👄 the palate is fresh, elegant and very drinkable. The finish is long and refreshing with fruity floral returns.

FOOD PAIRINGS

The Pinot Noir Coldaia is very intense, complex and persistent accompanied by fine tannins which provide structure to the wine. It is recommended with full-bodied dishes with strong elements that contrast well with each other such as succulence and tannin. Wonderful with feathered game, it is excellent with pheasant in truffle sauce.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Immediately after harvesting, which is done by hand in small crates in the last week of August, the grapes are selected in the cellar with a double sorting belt: before and after de-stemming. Fermentation is completely natural, without added yeast, for 18 days in open French oak truncated conical vats at a controlled temperature, with punching down. 11 months in French oak barriques and 7 months in cement vats. Bottled without filtration.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

for its intensity, persistence and structure.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

Viticulture has an ancient tradition in the Mugello area. As early as the Renaissance, Mugello wines were much loved. For at least two decades now, Mugello has been reviving a reputation that had waned over the following centuries, revealing important oenological qualities that have surprised public and critics alike, thanks to the renewal of its vineyards and cellars. The development of agronomic and oenological techniques has played an important role in this rebirth of Mugello wine-growing, together with the passion and courage of a number of farms that have focused so much on quality. The most traditional vines, such as Sangiovese, Malvasia and Trebbiano, have been joined by Merlot, Rebo and Pinot Noir (among the reds), and Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Riesling, Traminer, Muller-Thurgau and Petit Manseng (among the whites).

WINERY

Podere Fortuna is a Lowenstein family estate located in Mugello, in northern Tuscany, at the foot of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines. The winery, founded in 2001, is the first in this area to produce Pinot Noir. This particular variety, which is difficult to produce, finds in this territory the ideal microclimate for its maturation, especially thanks to the significant day-night temperature range that occurs during the summer. Over the years, attention to quality and control of every single aspect of production have become fundamental aspects of their production: from the selection of the berries at harvest time to the desire to use filtration and clarification techniques as little as possible, in order to preserve the typical elegance and expressiveness of Pinot Noir. The wines of Podere Fortuna start from a challenge and end up representing a territory still to be explored. Around the vineyard - 21 hectares at 250 metres above sea level, in organic conversion - at the foot of the southern slope of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, lies a huge and beautiful natural amphitheater.
