Production and refinement

Pure Gewürztraminer produced around the village of Kientzheim, at 400 meters above sea level, from a vineyard with a beautiful south-facing exposure, trained using double Guyot. The soil is very rocky and well-draining due to the calcareous bedrock. Harvest is done manually in crates with grape selection in the vineyard, in multiple passes, lasting from 4 to 8 weeks.

Pneumatic pressing of the grapes. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures for 4-10 weeks. Matures on its own lees in large wooden casks for 12 months, during which time the wine undergoes slow oxidation due to the natural porosity of the wood. The wine is then bottled and aged for an additional 2 or 3 years in the bottle.

Organoleptic analysis

Visual exam

A beautiful intense straw yellow with golden reflections.

Olfactory examination

On the nose, it expresses an intense, typically aromatic bouquet: fruity and floral, with damask rose and jasmine, honey, sweet spices, and almost cotton candy-like sweet notes.

Tasting

On the palate, it is very concentrated and intense, with a medium body. It expresses a sugar residue well-balanced by acidity and has captivating fruity notes of peach compote. The pleasantly bitter finish lingers long.

Alsace

Alsace is arguably the most famous French wine region in the world for white wines. It's a strip of land bordering Germany, historically contested between the two countries. Almost exclusively white grapes are cultivated here (including some of the most aromatic in the world: Gewürztraminer and Riesling) with which various styles of wines are produced. The only representative of red grapes in Alsace is Pinot Noir.

The climate is semi-continental due to its exceptional geographical location. The vineyards are shielded from oceanic influences by the Vosges massif, mostly facing south to southeast. The vines benefit from a dry microclimate, allowing for a long vine cycle and quality ripening of white grapes. A peculiarity of the region is the rapid variability of soils: an alternation of granite and limestone, with a myriad of solutions involving clay, schists, and gypsum, capable of offering the grape varieties much more subtle and intense aromatic nuances, fruity and mineral. Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Muscat d'Alsace, Pinot Gris, and Blanc for white berries, as well as Pinot Noir, are cultivated here.

Alsace is divided into two departments: Bas-Rhin, with Strasbourg as its capital, the northernmost area, and Haut-Rhin, to the south.

Lower Rhine

The Upper and Lower Rhine are two very different territories in terms of geographical, climatic, and cultural characteristics, geographically separated by the eponymous river, which flows through several European countries.

Bas-Rhin (Lower Rhine) is a department located in the Alsace region, in northeastern France, near Strasbourg. Lower Rhine is known for producing high-quality wines thanks to its mineral-rich soils and semi-continental climate. Here, primarily white grape varieties such as Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Sylvaner are cultivated, along with red varieties like Pinot Noir.

Alsace wines from Lower Rhine are especially appreciated for their varietal purity, expression of terroir, and structure. Alsace Rieslings are renowned for their vibrant acidity and mineral character.

Recommended pairings and dishes

Matching by concordance

Aging on lees in wood contributes to the richness and pronounced intensity of the wine, which therefore requires pairings with dishes that are equally rich in flavors and aromas, including pungent ones. It can also be paired, for a sweetness analogy, with desserts.

Matching by contrast

The beautiful sugar residue can be used in contrast when paired with very mature blue cheeses or bloomy rind cheeses, characterized by intense and penetrating aromas, great aromaticity and savoriness, long persistence, and even a slightly bitter tendency.

It pairs well with

Blue cheeses and very mature bloomy rind cheeses, roast turkey, veal, foie gras, for sumptuous appetizers; fruit tarts including apricot and almond tart, crème brûlée, or caramel-based desserts.

Foie gras

One of the great jewels of French gastronomy, with a smooth and rich flavor, and extraordinary aromatic persistence. Perfect for sumptuous aperitifs, with French crostinis and cheeses.
