TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR

We are in the province of Ferrara, in areas characterized by a microclimate very favorable to the production of native varieties.

The sandy soils allowed the cultivation of non-grafted grapes.

One of the 9 provinces of the Emilia-Romagna region, with the Bosco Eliceo DOC denomination. The wines of this area are often known as "sand wines", because the vineyards lie on particularly sandy soils: the sand content reaches up to 95%. Among all the vines, Fortana, also called Uva d'Oro, is the most widespread vine in this area and has ancient Etruscan origins. In the sixteenth century the Duke of Este Ercole II married Renata of France, the daughter of Louis XII, who seems to have brought with her some cuttings of the vine, which settled well in the lands of the Po delta, where the humidity, the mists and the salty air gave the grapes a very particular character.

The wines of the denomination (Bosco Eliceo DOC) must come from Fortana, Merlot, Malvasia bianca di Candia, Sauvignon and Trebbiano romagnolo grapes. Pure Fortana is a red wine that can be still or sparkling. Merlot in the Ferrara area takes on an intense ruby red color which gradually lightens with aging. Among the whites, however, we have Sauvignon, which stands out here for its straw yellow color and its freshness, while the Bianco del Bosco Eliceo blend has a particular and salty flavour, due to the environment in which the grapes are grown.

CELLAR

The Val di Testa winery is located in Bando (Argenta). A family business, run by Vito, Alex and Nicholas, a father and two brothers.

The winery is located in Emilia Romagna, in the province of Ferrara, a valley area reclaimed from the swamp in which there are very few wineries that produce wine. Today they produce Lambrusco type Maestri and Trebbiano type Romagnolo, but will soon also expand with Pinot Bianco.

The choice is that of maximum respect for the environment, with the newly obtained organic certification.

The sensorial imagery of their wines is pleasant and fragrant, without ever neglecting that touch of real flavor provided by the sandy and sedimentary soils.
