TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR

We are in the area of the Tortonesi hills: a succession of cultivated fields, vineyards and orchards which represents a natural continuation of the Po Valley up to the complex mountain chain of Lower Piedmont, where the Alps give way to the Apennines.
There are many white grape varieties that make up the Tortona hills area: Cortese, Favorite, Müller-Thurgau, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Riesling Italico, Riesling Renano, Barbera Bianca, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Sylvaner Verde and Timorasso. Timorasso, in particular, is one very rare - excellent - Piedmontese variety, native of the province of Alessandria saved from extinction by Walter Massa, from which aromatic and drinkable wines are obtained, also used in the distillation of grappa. Its production is limited, but of very high quality. The wine made from Timorasso grapes (called Derthona, from the ancient name of the territory) is a real gem, highly appreciated by professionals.

CELLAR

The centuries-old history of the Vigneti Massa company, a company from Monleale in the Tortonesi hills, is condensed in that of the current owner, Walter, in his total dedication to the company. Walter's genius in realizing how Timorasso could be a basic grape variety for a great wine is matched by his determination to spread this extraordinary white first outside his area, then the region and finally beyond national borders.
Walter applies the same dedication to Barbera, Croatina and Freisa, which he has always vinified in the most noble way possible.
Walter's history is linked to that of his territory, where with a "lighthouse" attitude he is working together with many "vertical" companies like his, to inextricably link Timorasso and Colli Tortonesi: Derthona is the name we increasingly owe learn to identify Timorasso in its terroir of choice.

Gustoso, fresco, tradizionale.
