NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 of a beautiful garnet red wine;

👃🏻 on the nose it expresses a vanilla and fresh fruity bouquet (cherry and morello cherry), with a peppery and white chocolate finish;

👄 on the palate it is fresh, long, dry and clean, with an excellent tannic closure.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This blend of Carignano and Syrah is a very persistent wine, with delicate tannins and excellent acidity. Perfect to combine with stewed red meats, game, aged cheeses and roasts. We particularly recommend it with roast pork in the oven and potatoes.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

This Shardana comes from a blend in which the Carignano, an important native grape within the Sardinian ampelographic landscape, is combined with a very small percentage of an international grape, the Syrah. The vines of this variety are raised by Santadi with the shape of the sapling for the Carignano and the espalier for the Syrah, within the vineyards of the lower Sulcis, characterized by sandy and calcareous soils. Grapes harvested by hand, the must ferments in stainless steel containers, macerating on the skins for 14 days and carrying out the malolactic fermentation. Then follows the refinement, in which the wine rests for 12 months in French oak barrels.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its softness and tannins.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are in Sulcis, in the cradle of Carignano, a territory that offers unmistakable emotions. The region is included between the last mountainous offshoots of south-western Sardinia and the sea. It was probably the Phoenicians, founders of the ancient Solci on the island of Sant’Antioco, who introduced the Carignano grape variety in Sardinia.
The vine growing area extends over about 1700 hectares but, despite its limited diffusion, Carignano can be considered with certainty one of the most important wines of Sardinian enology. The resistance of Carignano to salty winds, coming from the sea, has made it possible to develop its cultivation mainly on the sandy, warm and sunny soils of the Sulcis, which also thanks to the low production give the wine vigor and richness in extract and aromas. From the perfect balance between the climate, the soil and this elegant vine, a wine with an intense ruby color tending to garnet is born, with warm and enveloping aromas of plums and cherries, sweet spices and chocolate, licorice and black pepper.
On the palate it is aristocratic and balanced with soft tannins of rare elegance. Recognized in 1977 as a DOC wine, it is marketed under the name of Carignano del Sulcis.

WINERY

The Santadi winery is one of the most famous production companies in Sardinia, the architect of an important oenological enhancement work in the Sulcis area, a splendid south-western area of the island. It is one of the most authoritative and virtuous social wineries in all of Italy, founded in 1960 and today made up of over 200 winemakers. The goal of the Santadi winery has always been ambitious: to enhance Carignano del Sulcis by bringing it to previously unthinkable qualitative peaks. Today Santadi can undoubtedly claim to have fulfilled his mission. The Carignano, in fact, has carved out a leading role in the Italian wine scene, thanks to elegant red wines of great value.
