NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 of a beautiful straw yellow with greenish reflections;

👃🏻 the nose is intense and wide: fruity (peach above all) and floral (elderberry flower) together with notes of tomato leaf;

👄 on the palate it is dry and expresses a remarkable structure: the fruity notes return, especially citrus, for a great aromatic and territorial expression.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This Friulano is a very versatile wine with freshness, sapidity and aromatic persistence, which is why it goes well with fresh and light dishes. Ideal on raw ham and delicate and not too structured fish first courses.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Grapes grown on soils made up of marl and sandstone, harvested by hand in early September. Soft squeezing in pneumatic press, traditional white vinification with temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve the characteristics of the vine intact.

YOU'LL LOVE IT FOR...

its freshness.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

The winery is located in San Floriano del Collio, in the province of Gorizia. The wines produced in this area are the result of a unique terroir. The Gorizia Collio includes the northern hilly strip of the province of Gorizia, between the Isonzo and Judrio rivers. The area is close to the border with Slovenia, in a deeply interconnected area on both sides of the border. The Collio includes about 1,500 hectares of vineyards located on a sequence of hills along the east-west direction (altitude between 60 and 270 metres), which have large surfaces with excellent exposures, ideal for quality viticulture.

The cultivation of vines in the Collio dates back to Roman times, while the names of the wines that made the area famous date back to the seventeenth century: Ribolla, Cividino, Refosco, Corvino. Modern viticulture arrives in the Collio in the second half of the nineteenth century. Then the prevalence of white grape varieties is already marked.

After the Second World War the Collio was separated by the border, giving rise to two wine areas, the Italian Collio and the Brda in the Slovenian part.

WINERY

Along the road that leads from the Preval church towards San Floriano del Collio, the first winery you come across is that of Alessio Komjanc. The winery headquarters are located on the slopes of the hill, in a panoramic position from which, to the north, the view opens onto the spectacular setting of the hills and the eastern Alps.

The winery was founded in the seventies by Alessio, who had started the agricultural activity at his father's company. The winery was one of the first in San Floriano del Collio to understand the importance of selling its wine in bottles, proposing high quality wine, produced in the context of a family-run business.

New impetus came in 2000, when all four of Alessio's sons dedicated themselves to the winery, thus achieving greater specialization in each phase of the production chain: from the vineyard to marketing.

In 2006 the restructuring and expansion of the winery headquarters was completed, which mainly involved the cellar. Today it only makes wine from the grapes from its own vineyards and produces very characteristic wines, mainly aged in steel, very little in wood. They follow all the production phases with great care, for labels of the highest quality.
