Chateau de Respide

The Château de Respide, one of the oldest in the Graves region of Bordeaux, has a rich history. Built in the style of Louis XII, the castle has had illustrious owners over the centuries, including Monsieur de la Reynie, the police lieutenant of King Louis XIV. As early as the prestigious oenological guide of the time, Fèret, referred to the wine production of Château de Respide.

The current castle, built in the mid-19th century by Ernest Pascal, prefect of Bordeaux, has witnessed numerous billiard games between the painter Toulouse-Lautrec and Pascal's cousin, who was fond of the white wines produced by the estate.

Chateau de Respide

In 1952, Pierre Bonnet, the father of the current owner, took over the reins of the winery and vineyard, while now it is Franck who manages them.

The experimentation of new technologies and oenological practices is an integral part of the company's work, aiming to preserve the environment and ensure the highest quality of its wines. The wines of Château de Respide reflect the synergy between modernity and tradition, best expressing the minerality and richness of the Graves terroir.

The farming adopted by the Bonnet family is reasoned, aiming to minimize environmental impact both in the vineyard and in the cellar.

Bordeaux

The Bordeaux region is one of the most important wine territories in the world. Not only does this region reach dizzying qualitative peaks, but it has consistently maintained those results, year after year, with top-notch quality.

Centuries of tradition and pursuit of quality have raised the bar and made Bordeaux wines famous: in 80% of cases, they are imposing red wines of remarkable structure and power, but there are also examples of botrytized or noble rot wines that complete the oenological panorama and elevate Bordeaux's reputation.

Bordeaux benefits from its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The climate is maritime: mild winters, cool summers, abundant precipitation but very well absorbed by the soil rich in stones, breccia, and sediments. The soils are highly variable on the surface, not particularly fertile, and covered by a thin layer of breccia, while the deeper layers are rich in minerals.

Regarding the classification, most wines are designated as Cru Bourgeois, but otherwise, there is no homogeneous system for the entire region.

Graves

The Graves region is located south of the Médoc; it's a region that produces an equal amount of white wines (from Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc) and red wines (from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc).

This area is known for its favorable soil composition, formed by alluvial deposits that bring pebbles and stones to the surface, warming the environment in which the grapes ripen. The gravelly soils ensure excellent water drainage, greatly benefiting the quality of the grapes. Thanks to this characteristic, one of the most extensive wine-producing areas of Bordeaux is named "Graves."

For its importance, mention must certainly be made of the Pessac-Léognan AOC in this area.
In Graves, the production of white wine based on Sémillon grapes is also famous, which provides richness, structure, and aging potential, and Sauvignon Blanc, which brings freshness and aromatic elegance to the wines.
