Gagliardi

The company was founded in the 1950s by Gino Gagliardi. We are on the hills of Matelica, in the province of Macerata. The winery has always been a historic brand in Matelica, especially for Verdicchio. It was the first bottling company in the province, one of the first to produce Verdicchio under the D.O.C. label in the Marche region in 1967, and the first to obtain the D.O.C.G. for Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva in 2009. Today, the winemaking tradition continues with Umberto and Lara, the children of the founder. Umberto is a winemaker, responsible for production and is also the president of the Verdicchio Matelica Producers Committee; Lara is involved in administration and in the sales point.

Gagliardi

Wine production is carried out exclusively with estate-grown grapes and consists of 70% Verdicchio di Matelica, along with a small quantity of Sangiovese, Merlot, and Ciliegiolo.

The wines are produced with full respect for the terroir and for those who will consume it: therefore, the use of sulfites is kept to a minimum, focusing on the recognizability of the grape variety. The company also carries out a project dedicated to completely natural wine, matured in clay amphorae (Verdicchio and Sangiovese).

Marche

Viticulture in the Marche has ancient roots dating back to Etruscan times, and over the centuries, it has become an important activity for the local economy, with medieval expansion of cultivation thanks to the Benedictine monks.
The fame of Marche wines spread throughout Europe in the 19th century, only to suffer a crisis due to competition from wines of other Italian regions. It regained prominence only in recent decades, thanks to the rediscovery of native varieties and the introduction of new cultivation and winemaking techniques.

Thanks to its pedoclimatic characteristics, the Marche is particularly suited to viticulture, although the climate varies greatly depending on the arrangement and altitude of the relief. In coastal and southern areas, the climate is Mediterranean, warmer and drier, while in the inland and northern areas, it is continental, with greater temperature variations and the risk of frost.
Soils also vary depending on the subzone: three types of soils can be identified – calcareous soils in the hilly areas, clayey soils in the flat valleys, and sandy soils in the coastal strip.

Matelica

Matelica is an important wine-producing area located in the Marche region.

The main denominations are Verdicchio di Matelica DOC and Verdicchio di Matelica Riserva DOCG.

The predominant grape variety in the area is Verdicchio, a white grape known for its vibrant acidity and ability to reflect the local terroir.

Thanks to its cool climate and high altitudes, the Matelica area creates ideal conditions for the cultivation of Verdicchio. Verdicchio di Matelica wines are often appreciated for their structure, fruity aroma, and mineral notes. They represent a significant part of the rich winemaking tradition of the Marche region.

Matelica, the viticultural gem of the Marche, celebrates Verdicchio with its DOC and DOCG wines.
