NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 a beautiful straw yellow;

👃🏻 the nose is dominated by very fine hints of grapefruit and gooseberry together with an intriguing note of slate;

👄 on the palate it is fresh, full-bodied: a first-class Riesling.

RECOMMENDED COMBINATION

This Riesling expresses a unique minerality and can accompany the vast majority of fresh and fish-based dishes. It is perfect with seafood, salads, vegetable dishes but also veal.

REFINEMENT

The Adelseck Riesling "Alte Reben" grapes grow on slate soils near Münster Pittersberg. In this vineyard planted in 1987 and facing south, a fine and classy Riesling grows. Manual harvest and selection in the vineyard; fermentation in cooled stainless steel tanks. Low yields for a dense and complex Riesling.

TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR

Green slopes, river valleys and striking rock formations characterize the Nahe wine region in southwestern Germany. The mild climate favors the early ripening of the grapes. The main grape variety is Riesling, which is expressed in one of his favorite terroirs.

The Nahe wine region extends over 4,000 hectares of vineyards that line the course of the Nahe from Martinstein to the vicinity of Bingen, where it flows into the Rhine, and its tributaries Ellerbach, Guldenbach, Gräfenbach, Glan and Alsenz. The grapes grow on rolling hills, even in very steep positions. 75% of the wine produced along the Nahe is white, especially Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Kerner, but in recent years Weiß- and Grauburgunder (Pinot Blanc and Pinot Grigio) have been added. Among red wines, Dornfelder dominates, followed by Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir), Portugieser and Regent.

In no other wine region can you find such a great variety of rock. Quartzite and shale soils predominate along the lower Nahe; rhyolite, applefire and red sandstone characterize the course of the upper Nahe in the area between Traisen and Monzingen. Weathered soils and clay overlays of sandstone, loam and loess occur near Bad Kreuznach. The variety of rocks and soils is reflected in the Nahe wines, so incredibly rich in facets.

The climate of the region is temperate, mild and with little rainfall. Along the lower Nahe between Bingen and Bad Kreuznach there are ideal conditions for Burgunder (Pinot) and the qualities of black grapes that require a particular climate, have a high must weight and a not very accentuated acid structure. Along the upper Nahe and in its side valleys the climate is characterized by cold air masses coming from the Soonwald, the Hunsrücks and the mountains of the Northern Palatinate. The late ripening of the bunches benefits the aroma and acid structure of the Riesling: this is how fruity wines with great character are born.

CELLAR

The Adelseck winery has a centuries-old history, in the small Nahe wine region, well placed among the most famous regions for the production of Riesling. The river of the same name runs parallel to the Moselle about 50 km further south. The owned vineyards extend on the south-facing slopes along the river banks.

The versatility of their land (for a total of 10 hectares of vineyards) together with the natural approach allows them to produce wines with very different characters.
Full-bodied, strong and elegant red and white wines, others characterized by great freshness and minerality coexist with great quality, due to the extraordinary oenological expertise of the family.
