Production and refinement

Riesling in purity from a 0.27-hectare parcel, facing southeast, at 420 meters above sea level. The grapes are nobly affected by botrytis cinerea. Manual harvest with selection of the best bunches in the first days of December, after the removal of the fruit-bearing shoots at the end of September.

Cryomaceration and pressing, followed by fermentation throughout the winter and spring. It is aged in steel and bottled four years after the harvest, then allowed to further age for six months in the bottle.

Brilliant golden yellow, with amber reflections.

Olfactory examination

On the nose, it expresses mature fruity notes of apricot and peach, with intense floral notes of jasmine and acacia, along with hints of wilted flowers, chamomile, and jasmine.

Tasting

On the palate, it is velvety and sweet, creamy and dense, very balanced, with continuous fruity notes. The long finish is accompanied by intriguing mineral hints and a beautiful citrus freshness that balances the sweetness.

Marchesi di Montalto

Marchesi di Montalto was founded in 1996 with the determination to continue the values, traditions, and viticultural techniques of the century-old family business (established in 1890) and its philosophy, which regards the vine as the root of life.

Located in the central Oltrepò region, at 500 meters above sea level, the estate is dominated by the imposing castle of the Balduino Counts. The vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, Riesling Renano, and Pinot Grigio, along with Croatina, Riesling Italico, and Moscato. These vineyards are spread across the finest crus of the municipalities of Pietra De Giorgi, Cigognola, Broni, and Montalto Pavese.

Marchesi di Montalto

The Marchesi di Montalto winery is located in Montalto Pavese, a region renowned for its exceptional suitability for viticulture, particularly for Pinot Noir and Riesling Renano. For years, the winery has focused on the winemaking of two specific grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Riesling.

Today, it is a "bi-varietal" winery that produces only the finest cru of Pinot Noir and Riesling, bottling and commercializing a varied range of wines. Their vineyards are the result of extensive research to source vines capable of ensuring the highest quality standards.

The first evidence of vine cultivation in Lombardy dates back to prehistoric settlements on the lakes of Garda and Iseo, but it is only in contemporary times - post-phylloxera - that the focus has been on quality, also thanks to the introduction of American vine rootstocks. Thanks to the diversity of terroirs, viticulture here has given rise to a prominent ampelographic landscape, with a multitude of native grape varieties and wines that are a pride not only for the peninsula but also abroad (first and foremost Franciacorta DOCG, appreciated worldwide).

Lombardy is very extensive, therefore it presents areas with different characteristics both in terms of climate and soil. There are decidedly mountainous areas, as well as flat or partially hilly areas.
The main production areas are concentrated in the southern foothills, with the Garda area (with its unique microclimate thanks to the influence of the lakes), Oltrepò Pavese to the west, Brescia and Bergamo in the central part of the region, and Valtellina on the border with Austria.

In the region, wines of all types are produced, and there are five DOCG regions: Franciacorta in Brescia, Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico in the province of Pavia, Moscato di Scanzo in Bergamo (the smallest denomination in Italy), and Sforzato di Valtellina and Valtellina Superiore in the province of Sondrio.

Oltrepò Pavese

The Oltrepò Pavese is a naturally suited area for the production of grapes and excellent wines. With a vineyard surface area of 13,500 hectares, out of a regional total of 24,000, it represents approximately 55% of Lombardy's vineyard area. The terrain is hilly with steep slopes rising up to 1,700 meters above sea level in the first Apennines, with more rounded ridges in the eastern area towards Piacenza. The hills of the Oltrepò offer a landscape of great allure and represent the third Italian area in terms of surface area almost entirely dedicated to vineyards, with predominantly denomination productions.

The variety of the terrain, the proximity to the sea, and the presence of water influence the climate, which is mild and temperate, with excellent temperature fluctuations between night and day. The most representative grape varieties include Pinot Noir, Croatina, Barbera, and Riesling, but also rare grapes such as Vespolina, Pinot Bianco and Grigio, Cortese Bianco, Moscato, and Malvasia. The DOCG Oltrepò Pavese is of utmost importance, particularly in the following types: Metodo Classico Oltrepò Pavese DOCG, Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG rosé, Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG Pinot Nero, Oltrepò Pavese Metodo Classico DOCG Pinot Nero rosé.
