NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 Light ruby red in colour, typical of the vines;

👃🏻 on the nose it expresses a fresh bouquet with ripe fruity hints (berries, currants, blackberry, blueberry) and floral notes, together with more complex spicy notes (black pepper) and graphite;

👄 in the mouth it is intense, soft and decisive, with nice fruity returns. The finish is intense and persistent .

RECOMMENDED COMBINATION

A refined and intense Pinot Noir, which requires pairings with dishes equally strong in character. Served at the classic temperature of 16-18° C, it is perfect with tasty meats, with important cooking methods, such as game and braised meats, served cooler, at 4-6° C it goes wonderfully with cold rice and fried fish, word of producer!

REFINEMENT

Pure Pinot Noir. The grapes are selected and harvested manually in 18 kg boxes in the first weeks of September. Pressing, destemming, maceration and fermentation for approximately 8/10 days at a controlled temperature of 27° C. It refines for a year in tonneaux, is bottled and aged for a further 12 months in the bottle.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its intensity.

TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR

The company is located in Oltrepò Pavese : an area extremely suitable for the production of grapes and wine. Its viticultural history dates back at least 2000 years.

The surface area of 13,500 hectares of vineyards in the Oltrepò, out of a regional total of 24,000, represents approximately 55% of the vineyard surface area in Lombardy. The territory is hilly with steep slopes that rise up to 1,700 meters above sea level in the first Apennines and more rounded ridges in the eastern area towards Piacenza.

The Oltrepò hills offer a highly attractive landscape continuum and represent the third largest Italian area in terms of surface area almost entirely covered in vines and with mainly denomination production. The variety of the territory, the proximity of the sea and the presence of rivers and streams influence the climate, which is mild and temperate, with excellent excursions between night and day especially in the summer period, a fact which favors quality wine production.

CELLAR

Marchesi di Montalto was founded in 1996 with the determination to give continuity to the values, traditions and viticultural techniques of the century-old family company (born in 1890) and to its philosophy, which considers the vine as the root of life.

We are in the central Oltrepò, at 500 meters above sea level, in an area dominated by the imposing castle of the Balduino Counts. The winery's vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, Rhenish Riesling and Pinot Grigio, together with Croatina, Italic Riesling, Moscato: the vineyards are located in the best crus of the municipalities of Pietra De Giorgi, Cigognola, Broni and Montalto Pavese.

It is precisely in the latter municipality, famously recognized for its great vocation for vines and in particular for Pinot Noir and Rhenish Riesling, that the Marchesi di Montalto winery is based, which for years has dedicated itself with particular attention to the vinification of two specific vines: pinot noir and riesling.

In fact today it is a " bi-varietal " company that vinifies only the best Pinot Noir and Riesling crus , bottling and marketing a varied range. Their vineyards are the result of intense research to find cuttings capable of guaranteeing a very high quality standard, confirmed by practices in the vineyard and in the cellar.
