NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 a beautiful intense ruby;

👃🏻 the nose shows an intense perfume: the hints of ripe fruits, spices, withered rose and vanilla are evident;

👄 on the palate it is full, austere and rich in tannin, but always smooth.

PAIRINGS

Red of great character, to accompany equally tasty dishes. Excellent companion for structured dishes of meat, game, cheese, even blue cheeses.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Wine obtained from manual and careful harvesting, with rigorous selection of the grapes already in the vineyard, exposed to the South-East and South-West, within the Cru Mariano in the municipality of San Marzano Oliveto. The vinification is followed by an aging of at least 24 months in fine French oak barrels which allow the wine to reach perfect maturation. Aging for another 12 months in the bottle.

YOU'LL LOVE IT FOR...

its freshness and fragrance.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are in San Marzano Oliveto, in Monferrato. In this area the vineyards almost entirely cover the tops and slopes of the hills, however alternating with small woods, in highly suggestive landscapes.

The wide diversity of soils allows for the production of very complex wines, with an ample bouquet. The soils are calcareous-marly, white, light gray or beige in colour, rich in calcium carbonate which allow the production of full-bodied wines, rich in color (in the reds), sometimes with a hint of tufa, from aging; red earths, are deeper and richer, as well as clay and silt, in iron and magnesium oxides, excellent for producing white wines; sands of Asti, produce excellent red wines characterized by low acidity and fast maturation. On these lands, in very dry years the vine can suffer water stress problems, since the higher percentage of sand does not allow the soil to retain water but when this does not happen the vine gives excellent grapes.

WINERY

The Mondo family has been cultivating Barbera vineyards for generations in San Marzano Oliveto, in the heart of Monferrato.

Their 11 hectares of vineyards are characterized by the particular composition of the soil (medium texture) and a temperate microclimate, ideal for growing vines. 60% Barbera and the rest Moscato Bianco, Dolcetto, Cortese, Chardonnay, Favorita and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Valerio, accompanied by his father Franco and his daughter Beatrice, was one of the first interpreters of the DOCG Nizza. Born in 2014, the denomination Nizza has elevated this place, from the great vocation of Barbera, to its own denomination. Valerio and Beatrice are oenologists and follow the vineyards from an agronomic point of view, the selection of the grapes and the vinification carried out in the family farmhouse, a few steps from the rows. Franco, an expert winemaker, takes care of the processing of the vine.

Their other wines are Barbera d'Asti, Moscato d'Asti, Passito di Moscato, Cortese dell'Alto Monferrato, Monferrato Bianco, Monferrato Rosso and Monferrato Dolcetto.
