NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 Of a beautiful garnet red color with ruby reflections.

👃🏻 It has a great olfactory impact, with intense hints of red fruit (cherry and blackberry) and notes of licorice.

👄 A wine with an intense consistency on the palate, warm and rich in tannins and mineral salts.

RECOMMENDED COMBINATION

This is a wine with a robust body that we recommend on stewed meat dishes, for example lamb with tomato or pan-fried chicken with olives for an equal aromatic intensity. Also worth trying in combination with game meat cooked with long cooking times and intense spiciness, such as wild boar stew with juniper.

REFINEMENT

Produced with pure Montepulciano grapes coming from a single vineyard of two hectares called "Colle rosso", located on a hill crossed by gravel strips, after vinification it macerates on the skins at a temperature of 25°C and undergoes alcoholic fermentation daily 2 “delestage” to maximize extraction from the skins.

Malolactic fermentation in steel, maturation in oak barrels for 12 months and a further 12 months in bottle aging before marketing.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

Its fullness.

TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR
We are in the Viterbo area, in an area called Tuscia, which is located within a large territory extending to the extreme north of the Lazio region, bordered to the west by the hills and clay gullies of Civitella d'Agliano and to the east by the Umbrian plain bathed by the Tiber.

The presence of the now extinct volcanoes has given rise to a very varied territory both in terms of climate and edaphic characteristics of the soil. Today farmers have the possibility of cultivating vines on lava soils with an unparalleled richness of minerals, which bring extraordinary complexity to the grapes.

To get the best from the grapes, a large territory and excellent soil are not enough, but careful and competent work is also crucial, which is not lacking at all in this terroir dotted with small wine-growing companies with profound know-how.

The main native vines grown in the Tuscia area are Grechetto, Procanico, Verdello and Drupeggio.

CELLAR

Sergio Mottura's winery is located in an area rich in natural resources in the province of Viterbo, in an area dedicated to viticulture since the thirteenth century, as documents attest.

The winery has belonged to the Mottura family since 1933, managed since the 1960s by Sergio Mottura, who has always worked to safeguard the natural heritage while simultaneously modernizing the structure in terms of new systems and activities in the cellar.

The philosophy of the Mottura winery is based on responsible use of natural resources and cultivates its own vines, spread over 26 hectares, with an organic farming regime, on volcanic soils rich in minerals.

Mottura favors native varieties (such as Grechetto, Procanico, Verdello and Drupeggio) and has for years selected the clones most suitable for winemaking, i.e. those grown for a long time in the same environment. This research work has led to a natural selection of the species that best defend themselves from local pathogens, allowing the elimination of pesticides and allowing organic cultivation today.
