Alfio Nicolodi

Alfio Nicolodi is a passionate promoter of viticulture in the Val di Cembra and mountain viticulture more broadly. Here, we are talking about true heroic viticulture. The prohibitive slopes and rugged terrain make it so difficult that machinery is rarely used: vine growers like Alfio literally have to climb these slopes. For this reason, in this territory, the most evocative symbol of viticulture is hard work, which in the past was also linked to poverty.

Alfio Nicolodi

The company was founded by his grandfather at the beginning of the twentieth century, but the turning point came with Alfio, who, in less than 2 hectares of vineyards, changed the plantings and winemaking, carefully following all production phases. With enthusiasm and great determination, Alfio has brought back into production two rare grape varieties of the valley: Lagarino Bianco and Veltliner Rosso.

Trentino Alto Adige

Trentino Alto Adige is a region entirely mountainous and divided into the autonomous provinces of Trento and Bolzano, whose border marks a linguistic and administrative watershed.

The attention of wineries and heroic viticulture ensures a consistently high quality level of wines, and particularly the best results are achieved with grapes that thrive in cold climates, such as Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, which here express their varietal characteristics at their best. In addition to the many international varieties, the region also boasts an interesting heritage of native grapes, including Teroldego, Schiava, and Lagrein.

Although it would be difficult to draw a morphological boundary between the two areas geographically, ethnic and linguistic differences on one hand and pedoclimatic differences on the other have also led, over the centuries, to a provincial characterization of wine production.

Both areas, however, share an excellent wine production, thanks also to the geographic position and favorable climatic conditions along the Adige Valley and on the slopes of the mountains that line it, as well as in the flat and hilly areas around Trento and Bolzano.

Val Di Cembra

The Val di Cembra is a wine-growing area located in the province of Trento, known for the production of high-quality wines with Controlled Designation of Origin (DOC) and Typical Geographical Indication (IGT).

This valley is a very peculiar area from a geological point of view, with a morphology characterized by narrow and deep valleys, with a soil that has a strong limestone component. These geological characteristics, together with the high altitude of the vineyards (ranging from 250 to 900 meters above sea level), give the wines produced in the area a mineral note and a unique freshness, making them highly appreciated by connoisseurs around the world.

The most cultivated grape varieties in the area are Müller Thurgau, Pinot Nero, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, and Moscato Giallo, but the most representative variety of the area is Teroldego, a native grape variety of the region that gives rise to red wines with a unique and bold character.

The Val di Cembra, a geological jewel nestled among deep valleys and limestone soils, cradles alpine vineyards between 250 and 900 meters above sea level.
