NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 beautiful ruby red;

👃🏻 elegant fruity bouquet of ripe red notes on the nose, berries and black cherries followed by elegant hints of eucalyptus;

👄 on the palate it is round and full-bodied, with a fresh taste, a fine tannin and good persistence.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This Merlot is an intense, complex, elegant wine with a great body. It needs to be paired with succulent food with great aromatic persistence. Perfect with aged cheeses, intense first courses, paired with speck and cured meats, even better if from Trentino region.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

A 100% Merlot grown in the vineyards of Bolzano at the Adige and Isarco river confluence, on an alluvial soil with guyot-trained vines. The harvest is manual and takes place in mid-October. After transport to the cellar and soft pressing-destemming, the alcoholic fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature. Malolactic fermentation follows. The wine ages for 12 months in barrique and then in tonneaux barrels.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its elegance.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are in Alto Adige, an area very suitable for the production of white and red quality wines.
The vineyards are located at an altitude between 200 and 1000 meters above sea level and vines grow on very different soils. The native variety of Lagrein, for example, prefers warm gravelly or sandy soils, while the local Gewürztraminer vine expresses its best on clayey and very calcareous soils. Unique are the stony soils of dolomitic limestone, widespread above all in the southern offshoots of the Wine Route and which originate from the famous mountain massif of the Dolomites, a UNESCO world heritage site. Thanks to their mineral characteristics, these warm and very permeable soils are ideal above all for producing full-bodied white wines with a strong taste.

WINERY

Griesbauerhof manages a splendid estate near Bolzano, in the hilly area of Santa Maddalena and Santa Giustina.
Maso Griesbauer has been owned by the Mumelter family since 1875. The passion for viticulture has been handed down from generation to generation up to the present day as a precious heritage. Today the winert is managed by Georg Mumelter together with his wife Margareth and their two sons Michael and Lukas. Their vineyards are located at an altitude between 300 and 500 meters above sea level, with a sunny exposure facing south, on particularly suitable soils, mainly of a sandy and clayey matrix. Vines are cultivated with great passion and all the processes between the rows are carried out manually. The property extends over 4 hectares, divided into several plots.
The "Rencio" vineyard is located in the hilly area above the city of Bolzano, where the red Schiava, Lagrein and Cabernet Sauvignon vines are grown, while the white grapes such as Pinot Blanc and Gris are grown in the "Weißhaus" vineyard. The work in the cellar is based on a careful selection of the grapes and on vinification carried out in the traditional way, with minimal oenological intervention, in order to enhance the personality of each vine and the character of the terroir.
