NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 of a beautiful intense ruby red;

👃🏻 notes of overripe berries and jam emerge on the nose, then completed by more complex spicy hints;

👄 on the palate it is full-bodied and consistent, soft, warm and velvety, with a long persistence.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This Merlot is a very complex wine: it is recommended to opened in advance so that it can express the unique tertiary aromas. It loves structured dishes with texture, succulence and intense aromatic persistence. Perfect with aged cheeses and red meat main courses, to be tried with stewed venison.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

This Merlot is grown in a vineyard characterized by a sandy soil. After the manual harvest and a soft crushing-destemming, the alcoholic fermentation takes place in steel, followed by malolactic fermentation and maturation in used barriques, without tartaric stabilization. The progressive refinement of this wine develops tertiary aromas and hints.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its persistence, intensity and intriguing tertiary aromas.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

The area is Alto Adige, very suitable for the production of white and red wines.
The vineyards are located at an altitude between 200 and 1000 meters and the vines grow on very different soils. The native Lagrein, for example, prefers warm gravelly or sandy soils, while the Gewürztraminer expresses its best on clayey and very calcareous soils. The stony soils of dolomitic limestone are unique, widespread above all in the southern offshoots of the Wine Route and originating from the Dolomites, a UNESCO heritage site. Thanks to their mineral characteristics, these warm and very permeable soils are ideal above all for producing full-bodied white wines with a strong taste.

WINERY

We are in South Tyrol, the vineyards are cultivated at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level, on soils of various compositions, with a prevalence of limestone or sandy-silty components. Armin and Monika Kobler have been making wine from their grapes since 2006. They cultivate just 3.5 hectares of vineyards, for a very small production of 15,000 bottles a year.
The Ogeaner vineyard is their oldest, acquired by the winery in 1958: half of them were already planted with Chardonnay. Over the years they have added vineyards such as Klausner, planted with Pinot Gris, Merlot and Carmenère; and then again the Kotzner vineyard, where the existing Schiava variety vines were overgrafted with Merlot in the 1990s. In other vineyards they grow Cabernet Franc, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer. Great care is dedicated to the work in the vineyard: integrated pest management is used to protect the plants, reducing treatments to the minimum. The harvest is manual, with a careful selection of the best grapes.
