NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 of a beautiful intense ruby;

👃🏻 the nose expresses notes of ripe fruit, with light spicy hints of pepper;

👄 on the palate it is full-bodied, full, broad and persistent.

RECOMMENDED COMBINATION

An intense red, perfect with dishes with character.

A wine that needs time to best express itself: it should be opened half an hour before tasting it.

TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR

We are on the splendid island of Ischia.

For the Romans, Ischia was a land of wine in all respects, and until the mid-twentieth century, wine was the beating heart of the island's economy. The viticultural history here is very ancient: numerous archaeological finds of objects intended to contain fermented wine are kept (for example the cup of Nestor, referred to in the Iliad, probably imported from Rhodes and on which an inscription appears which alludes to the powers of the drink contained in it).

Ischia is to all intents and purposes a dormant volcano. In 46 square kilometers of total area on the island, many vineyards are on terrain with slopes that go well over 30% for heroic viticulture. The technique of terracing with dry stone walls (the parracine) made of hand-worked stones (such as green tuff, which is found nowhere else in the world, or with other lava materials), has favored the cultivation of areas impervious, which enjoy special microclimates. The soils are very rich in minerals, much loved by the vine.

Viticulture is particularly suitable also due to the dry, mild and ventilated climate, with very little rainfall: this makes the cultivation destined for the production of fresh, tasty and drinkable wines. The soils are dark and crumbly and rich in potassium, which favors the formation of sugars in the ripening phase. On the island of Ischia, varieties such as Aglianico, Piedirosso, Guarnaccia, Biancolella and Forastera are grown.

CELLAR

Cenatiempo is one of the most widespread and typical surnames of the island of Ischia, one of those local symbols; the winery was founded in 1949 and since then it has cultivated and produced small masterpieces. The vineyard extends between 300 and 600 meters above the sea, with vineyards that offer spectacular views with the unmistakable blue background, where the distant horizon creates contact between sea and sky. The cellar has been modernized over the years and is now equipped with cutting-edge technologies , without ever forgetting the local traditions .
We are in the presence of a wine made on a volcano that meets the sea, where the lava meets the Mediterranean Sea; these two opposing souls blend and give life to exceptional wines, with a well-defined saline vein and a pleasant drinkability. Cenatiempo perfectly expresses both the maritime and volcanic sides of the island, implementing vineyard management with organic farming , where the steep slopes often do not allow any shape of mechanization . Viticulture is heroic, practiced with spontaneous grassing between the rows and valorisation of the native varieties of the Ischia wine area, such as biancolella, forastera and piedirosso, in 6 hectares of vineyards.
