PAIRINGS

A Malbec that perfectly expresses the grape variety and goes very successfully with typical Argentine dishes. Above all: the grilled meat. To be opened a few minutes before serving so that it can express itself at its best.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

100% Malbec grown in Mendoza at 980 meters above sea level and harvested by hand. Pre-fermentation cryo-maceration at low temperature (8° C) for three days. Alcoholic fermentation for two weeks on the skins with daily pumping over. Aging for ten months in French barriques. Further six months of maturation in the bottle.

YOU'LL LOVE IT FOR...

its pleasantness.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are in Argentina, in Mendoza, the largest wine-growing area in Argentina.

This area, located about 1000 km west of Buenos Aires, is the center of the Argentine wine industry and produces 70% of the country's wines.

The climate is hot and dry, rainfall is scarce. The soils are mostly of alluvial, morainic and volcanic origin, tending to be clayey-loamy and endowed with moderate fertility.

The most cultivated vine is undoubtedly Malbec, which gives wines with deep colours, aromas of red fruit, herbaceous and spicy notes and a good tannic structure. Other black grape varieties of the region are cabernet sauvignon, syrah, pinot noir, tempranillo and bonarda. For the white berried varieties, chenin blanc, torrontés, chardonnay and riesling are instead grown.

WINERY

El Hijo Prodigo is the project of Alessandro Speri, who grew up in a family of important producers of Valpolicella, determined to realize the dream of producing great wines in Mendoza. The vineyards in the Uco Valley, cultivated at altitudes ranging from 600 to 1700 meters above sea level, allow quality viticulture where treatments are practically non-existent and the strong temperature variations contribute to the good ripening and concentration of the grapes.

In particular, Alessandro has chosen 10 hectares in La Consulta for his winery where, compared to the rest of the Uco Valley, there are even greater temperature variations and also in autumn, when the days remain warm, allowing the tannins to reach their optimal point of maturation. Alessandro's philosophy is based on meticulous work and maniacal care, for a production of excellent quality. Among his wines: Bonarda, Malbec, Tempranillo, Torrontés and blends of other local grapes.
