NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 a beautiful dark and light ruby red;

👃🏻 the nose reveals hints of berries on the nose accompanied by a light spiciness that blends perfectly. The finish is mineral;

👄 on the palate it is full, with a broad body, good acidity, in the finish the savory note persists over time.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This blend of Piedirosso and Aglianico is intense, persistent, with a tannin and a sapidity that make it very pleasant to drink: it requires combinations of character equal to its own for which meat main courses are ideal pairings. Try it with beef stew with black truffle.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Lacryma Christi Rosso, from Piedirosso and Aglianico grapes with the typical territorial character. The vines from which the grapes come are planted in 1980, on volcanic soil. Vinification in steel at a controlled temperature and ageing in second and third passage wood for 16/18 months followed by another 8 months in the bottle before being marketed.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its intensity and character.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are on the Vesuvius, a mosaic of colors and scents. The first evidence of winemaking traditions can be found in Aristotle, who tells that the Thessalians planted vines in the area since the fifth century BC. Vesuvius is located between the Gulf of Naples, the impetuous chains of the Lattari Mountains and the Irpino Apennines. The territory benefits from the winds coming from the sea which, combined with those of the mountains, guarantee the vines the ideal microclimate to grow and produce grapes of extraordinary quality. The soil is formed in part by fallout or flow deposits and in part by volcanoclastic deposits sedimented locally by surface runoff waters. The production area is divided into two large areas: Vesuvius and Monte Somma. Vesuvius has an irregular morphology and still lacks a defined hydrographic network. The proximity to the sea and the presence of a milder microclimate characterize the wines produced on this side. Monte Somma represents the quietest, greenest, most luxuriant facies of the Volcano, with its deciduous and chestnut woods, the heroic terraces that climb along the slopes, up to the edge of the wood, with apricots and luxuriant and disordered tree gardens. The strong temperature variations and the cool and humid microclimate characterize the wines produced on this side. The most cultivated native grapes are: Piedirosso and Caprettone. Other vine varieties from the area are Coda di Volpe, Aglianico and Falanghina.

WINERY

Villa Dora grows eight hectares of vineyards in the heart of the Vesuvius National Park, in Terzigno (three km from Pompeii) to which are added five of 60-year-old olive groves within the Vesuvius National Park, in the Terzigno area. The exposure is south-west, at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. The company bears the name of the owner's wife, Dora. Since the first steps, since 1997, the winery has dedicated to the production of excellent wines through the radical rethinking of crops to create the basis for a high quality production. Hence the choice to grow organically, with the intention of always operating, at every stage of the business, according to the lowest possible environmental impact. Biodiversity, low environmental impact and research pour into the excellent wines of Villa Dora and are found in their wines.
