NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 a beautiful intense ruby red;

👃🏻 on the nose it expresses a fine complex bouquet, including blackberry, berries, hints of thyme, mint, spices, pepper, eucalyptus;

👄 on the palate it is fresh , intense , full- bodied ; an elegant and balanced red. Long ending.

RECOMMENDED COMBINATION

This red is intense, persistent, with an important tannin which nevertheless makes it very pleasant to drink: it is particularly suitable for pairing red meats, braised meats and mature cheeses.

TERRITORY OF ORIGIN:

TERROR

Calabria represents one of the least known territories in Italy , but it has potential that intrigues even the most expert palates.

The company is located in the Verzano district, a hamlet of Donnici Inferiore, in the province of Cosenza.

The climate in the area is influenced by the geographical conformation which sees it located in a valley surrounded by mountain chains, such as the Pollino and the Sila, which block ventilation from the sea; this causes high temperatures in summer and very cold temperatures in the winter months.

Two of Calabria's nine DOCs are present in the province. The Savuto DOC (shared with the province of Catanzaro) is dedicated to wines produced with grapes from the Montonico, Chardonnay, Greco Bianco, Malvasia Bianca, Gaglioppo, Aglianico, Greco Nero and Nerello Cappuccino vines, vinified in the white, red and rosé.

The Terre di Cosenza DOC is more recent and dates back to 2011, created by merging pre-existing denominations. There are seven sub-areas: Colline del Crati, Condoleo, Donnici, Esaro, Pollino, San Vito di Luzzi and Verbicaro. è Its wines are produced from the grapes of the Magliocco canino, Greco nero, Gaglioppo, Aglianico, Calabrese, Greco bianco, Guernaccia bianca, Pecorello, Malvasia bianca, Montonico, Chardonnay, Cabernet sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese vines. The specification provides for the types of red, also reserve, passito, late harvest, new, rosé, also sparkling, white, also sparkling, in addition to those specific to the individual vines vinified in purity. In the province of Cosenza there is also the regional denomination Cosenza IGT.

CELLAR

Rocca Brettia is a small Calabrian winery that collects an ancient cultural heritage, with wines that proudly represent the traditions of Calabria. The company's vineyards, excellently exposed, extend over a large hill, 500 m above sea level, in Donnici Inferiore, a hamlet of Cosenza, surrounded by the colors of the Mediterranean scrub and protected by centuries-old olive trees, sheltered from the fresh Sila winds .

The company's passion is intertwined with a strong territorial vocation, to give life to a small range of wines that tell of the deep connection with the territory and the uncontaminated charm of nature.
