Domaine Vico

Napoleon Bonaparte's land has been home to the Vico winery since 1901. The company is located in the heart of the island, in a complex climatic and geological area rich in schists and basalts, which ensure great minerality and freshness to the wines. In 1986, the winery was acquired by the Acquaviva-Venturi family.

Domaine Vico

Today, Manu Venturi leads the company with energy and determination, pursuing a logic aimed at developing environmental and landscape protection on the island. All this across 29 hectares of vineyards.

Corsica

Corsica is a land of ancient winemaking traditions, with over 40 grape varieties cultivated, including many indigenous ones, especially black grape varieties. The climate is Mediterranean, characterized by the presence of mountains that contribute to ventilation and create a thermal excursion between day and night, beneficial for vineyards located up to over 400 meters above sea level.

Vines have been present in Corsica since ancient times, with fossil evidence dating back over 6000 years. Viticulture developed significantly during the Roman era, but the decisive contributions came between the 1100s and 1400s from the Pisan and Genoese dominations, which introduced grape varieties such as Nielluccio (Sangiovese) and Vermentino. Nielluccio is the most cultivated grape variety, along with Sciacarello (Mammolo), also a black grape variety. Vermentino is the most cultivated white grape variety on the island.

Corsica has nine AOCs. In the north, there are the AOC Vin de Corse Coteaux du Cap Corse, with wines made from Vermentino grapes, and the AOC Muscat du Cap Corse, a vin doux naturel. A famous passito wine from this area is Rappu, made from Grenache and Aleatico grapes. The famous AOC Patrimonio is located at the base of Cap Corse, in the Bastia area, known for its rosé wines based on Nielluccio. Along the west coast, there are the AOCs Calvi and Ajaccio, with red wines based on Nielluccio and whites based on Vermentino. In the south of the island, there are the AOCs Sartène, Vin de Corse Figari, and Porto Vecchio. The last designation of origin is the AOC Vin de Corse, which includes the entire territory of the island.

Haute-Corse

The Upper Corsica is a region of considerable importance in winemaking, characterized by a variety of soils and microclimates that profoundly influence the quality and character of the wines produced. This region stands out for the variety of its controlled designation of origin (AOC) and for the significant production of quality wines.

The Cap Corse peninsula, located in the north of Corsica, features mainly schist soil, ideal for vine cultivation. Immediately south of Cap Corse, in the Patrimonio region, the soil is rich in limestone and clay, giving the wines a particular minerality and structure. Along the western coast, the soil contains a high concentration of granite, while vineyards planted on the eastern coast, between the towns of Solenzara and Bastia, are mainly on marly sand.

Corsica boasts nine AOCs, in addition to a Vin de Pays designation, the Vin de Pays de l'Île de Beauté, representing two-thirds of the island's entire wine production. The Patrimonio region, located on the northern coast, was the first to receive the AOC designation in 1968. This region, situated west of the city of Bastia, is famous for its limestone and clay soils surrounding the town of Patrimonio.

The AOC Muscat du Cap Corse includes the natural sweet wines produced at the northern tip of the island's peninsula. These wines, made in the vin doux naturel style, are entirely composed of Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. The Vin de Corse-Coteaux du Cap Corse sub-region, located at the northern tip of the peninsula, also produces sweet wines based on Muscat and Aleatico.

The Vin de Corse-Calvi sub-region is located around the northwestern coastal town of Calvi, north of Ajaccio. This area is known for its wines that follow the same strict AOC criteria as the main Vin de Corse designation.

The Vin de Corse-Sartène sub-region is situated northwest of Figari and focuses around the town of Sartène. This region produces wines with a distinctive character, thanks to the combination of unique soils and traditional winemaking techniques.

The variety of soils and microclimates profoundly influence the quality and character of the wines.
