NOTES FROM OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 intense and almost golden straw yellow;

👃🏻 the nose is overwhelming, with notes of gardenia, sage, golden apple and talc;

👄 In the mouth it is captivating, with a beautiful body supported by a fresh vein. Finale played on tight savory and almond tones.

RECOMMENDED COMBINATION

A white with character, savory and full-bodied, which prefers fresh dishes with equal body and character. Perfect to accompany fish and seafood-based foods, white meats, including spicy ones, feathered game, fresh cheeses.

Purely Greek. Manual harvest of the grapes in the first ten days of October. Soft pressing and maceration (contact of the must with the skins) for a few hours. Steel fermentation of the extracted free-run must. Contact with the fine lees for 6 months, refinement in the bottle.

TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR

We are in the province of Avellino, in Irpinia, characterized by a large landscape variety , with mountains, hills, valleys and plateaus.

The territory has a strong and unique identity in the world due to the peculiarities of the subsoil and the climatic conditions. Following the powerful eruption of Vesuvius which occurred several thousand years ago, pyroclastic materials transported by strong winds settled on the territory of Irpinia, giving rise to a thick layer of volcanic materials, which consolidated over the centuries.

Today, the terroir of Irpinia presents itself great wealth  of mineral micronutrients.

More superficial layers are formed by stratified limestones, while the hills and valleys are made up of deposits of arenaceous and clayey materials. The soils show a well-balanced texture, clay-free, with frequent stony surfaces.

The Mediterranean climate  exposes the area to cold, humid winters and hot summers, with strong temperature variations between day and night. The balance between climate, vine and soil is perfect. A balance that has become increasingly harmonious over the centuries, giving life to wines with supreme characteristics, which are characterized by aromatic complexity, a velvety, full and elegant taste, an intense and delicate aroma.

CELLAR

The brothers Francesco and Chiara Romano chose courageously to stay in their Irpinia and to share the belonging that their parents have for this land by becoming part of the family's agricultural reality.

The company was founded in 2006 by the will of father Franco and mother Fiorenza, and is the only winery in San Mango sul Calore, a town included in the Taurasi DOCG area, which was also completely devastated by the 1980 earthquake and admirably rebuilt. The name "Antico Castello" bears the memory of a feudal building present in the area before the earthquake. Cutting-edge technologies at the service of high quality grapes, this is the motto of the winery. So: soft membrane press and steel tanks, for the delicate white grapes; barriques and French oak barrels, for important reds.
