NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 a beautiful bright straw yellow with golden reflections;

👃🏻 on the nose, it expresses a complex and elegant bouquet of flowers (acacia, jasmine) and ripe fruits (apple, apricot), enriched by an herbaceous note;

👄 the palate is direct, fresh and mineral, with an intriguing bitter note; long finish.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This Passerina "Duchessa" stands out for its beautiful acidity and sapidity, with intense fruit notes on the nose: this calls for accompaniments with intense, flavoursome dishes. Try it with stuffed dumplings with cream cheese and salmon.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Passerina del Frusinate is an indigenous grape variety from Ciociaria, grown on a vineyard over 40 years old at 300 metres above sea level on red clay soil. Vinification is in temperature-controlled steel tanks, ageing takes 6 months in steel and at least 3 in the bottle.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its freshness.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

The winery is located in the province of Frosinone. Viticulture has very ancient origins here: already in Roman times, production was extensive, so much so that the Emperor Domitian, in the 1st century B.C., was forced to limit the introduction of new plantings in order to prevent the cultivation of wheat from taking second place to vines. The soils are characterised by being of volcanic origin, a fact that gives the wines flavour and minerality, as well as great quality.

The province of Frosinone is known as Ciociaria, named after the typical footwear used here in the past, the ciocie. The province has one of the three DOCG wines of Lazio and only one DOC. Cesanese del Piglio or Piglio DOCG are produced with cesanese d'Affile and cesanese comune.

Atina DOC is instead dedicated to wines produced with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, syrah, merlot and semillon. In the province of Frosinone, there are also the Anagni IGT, Frusinate IGT and Lazio IGT designations.

WINERY

The Alberto Giacobbe winery is a family business, founded in 1939 on the top of the San Giovenale hill, next to Monte Scalambra. Today they cultivate 9 hectares of vineyards between the municipalities of Paliano, Piglio and Olevano Romano.

The higher-altitude plots are dedicated to the native Cesanese d'Affile, while the lower-altitude ones cultivate Passerina del Frusinate.

Since 2008, Alberto Giacobbe has been carrying on the family traditions and making an important qualitative change. Alberto produces two wines: the Cesanese di Olevano Romano DOC and the Passerina del Frusinate IGT, a red and a white both from grapes typical of the area.
