Production and refinement

López Cristóbal Crianza Finca La Colorada is produced from vineyards located in the heart of the Ribera del Duero, on clay- and limestone-rich soils, with favorable exposures and a continental climate marked by sharp temperature variations. The grapes, predominantly Tempranillo with a small percentage of Merlot, are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness.

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel and large wooden vats at controlled temperature. The wine is then aged for 12 months in French and American oak barriques, developing structure, elegance, and aromatic complexity, while preserving the integrity of the fruit.

Organoleptic analysis

Visual exam

Deep ruby red color with violet highlights, compact, bright, and full-bodied.

Olfactory examination

On the nose, it reveals complex and layered aromas: fresh blackberry, blackcurrant, and raspberry, followed by spicy, balsamic, and smoky notes. With oxygenation, elegant earthy hints, coffee, and leather emerge. A broad and rounded profile.

Tasting

On the palate, it is dry, full, and structured, with a bold and fruity entry. The tannins are fine and well-integrated. The texture is velvety, smooth, and fleshy, with a long aromatic persistence dominated by tertiary notes (leather, sweet spices, toasted nuances). Excellent consistency between nose and palate, and great overall balance.

Castilla y León

The flagship product of Castilla y León is the red wine made from Tinta de Toro, a native grape variety descended from Tempranillo that has adapted to the extreme climatic conditions of this area, with a higher concentration of sugars and polyphenols at full ripeness.

The small grapes with thick skins, rich in color and with pronounced tannins, are known for their full-bodied and intense character, with aromas of black fruit and spices. Among the most famous wines of this region are Toro Reserva and Toro Gran Reserva, aged for at least three and five years respectively, necessary to "tame" the significant tannin.

Ribera del Duero

The Ribera del Duero is one of Spain’s most prestigious appellations, located in the heart of the Castile and León region along the banks of the Duero River. This area is characterized by a plateau that stretches at an altitude between 750 and 1,000 meters, a key factor contributing to the elegance of the wines produced here.

The climate is extremely continental, with harsh winters, scorching summers, and strong temperature fluctuations between day and night, which promote a slow and complete ripening of the grapes. The soils, predominantly clay-limestone and sandy, sometimes enriched with alluvial pebbles, are well-drained and low in organic matter: ideal conditions to limit yields and increase the aromatic concentration of the grapes.

In this context, Tempranillo (known locally as Tinta del País) expresses its identity at its best, producing deep, long-lived, and complex wines, often aged in French and American oak. The unique terroir and climate of Ribera del Duero yield wines with a bold yet refined character, mature tannins, a pronounced fruity component, and great aging potential. It is a harsh and sunny landscape where viticulture is deeply rooted in history, and the identity of the territory is reflected in every bottle.

Recommended pairings and dishes

Matching by concordance

The full structure, dense body, and complex bouquet of the wine pair successfully by analogy with structured dishes, juicy and flavorful meats, and smoked or spiced preparations. Notes of blackberry, red fruits, and spices blend harmoniously with recipes featuring similar components—such as marinades, red wine reductions, or aromatic herbs.

Matching by contrast

The freshness and savoriness of the red wine balance the natural hint of sweetness found in meats like goose and duck or in sides such as red cabbage and caramelized onions. Its smooth tannins offset the softness of dishes with rich, buttery, or slightly sweet sauces, while the alcohol content supports the succulence of fatty meats.

It pairs well with

Hearty main courses such as pepper-crusted filet, game (wild boar, venison, pheasant), grilled or roasted meats, red wine–braised chicken, veal liver with apples and onions, goose breast with red cabbage, juniper, and marjoram, intense and spiced vegetarian dishes, and stuffed peppers.

Wild boar stew with prunes

An exquisite main course, ideally cooked in the same wine you're tasting. Structured, rich in flavors and aromas, for unforgettable Sunday lunches.

Grilled Meat

Skewers, pork, steaks, up to the noble Florentine steak... grilling enhances the flavor of the meat (properly marinated) and makes it pleasantly charred. Best enjoyed in company for truly convivial barbecues, always being careful not to place the meat directly over the flame.
