Production and refinement

A blend composed of 75% Grenache, 15% Vieux Carignan, and 10% Syrah, contributing to complexity and structure. The grapes are grown on sandy, clay, and calcareous soils typical of the Rhône Valley, which enhance intensity and freshness. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully selected to ensure quality.

Fermentation in cement tanks, with prolonged maceration for 20 days to enhance the extraction of noble compounds. Aging for 10 months in cement tanks to preserve freshness and the elegance of the aromas. Bottle aging allows the grape to fully express its characteristics.

Domaine des Pères de L'Église

The Domaine des Pères de L'Église, founded in 1805, is located in the heart of the prestigious Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation. This family-run winery, led by Serge Gradassi since 2002, is one of the historical estates of the region, known for its artisanal approach and deep respect for the identity of its wines, which are renowned for their excellent aging potential.

The estate covers 19 hectares of vineyards, spread across several plots located in the four corners of the appellation. This diversity ensures an extraordinary range of terroirs, crucial to the complexity of the wines produced.

Certified HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) since 2020, the Domaine is in the process of converting to organic farming, emphasizing its commitment to sustainable and environmentally-friendly viticulture.

Domaine des Pères de L'Église

Since 1910, the Domaine has had a modern winemaking cellar that blends tradition with technology. The white grapes ferment in 500-liter barrels for a period of eight months in the underground cellar, where the temperature and humidity conditions are optimal for the development of complex and age-worthy wines. Each barrel is carefully selected to match the characteristics of the specific terroir and vintage, ensuring a harmonious maturation process.

Forests of oak trees, terraced vineyards with steep pathways on friable granite soils, pebbly and sunny plains where vines mingle with olive trees, set the backdrop to the course of the Rhône, whose banks are dotted with precious vineyards, already known to the Greeks and Romans.

The Rhône Valley is located in southeastern France, from the city of Lyon to the region of Provence. The area experienced a certain decline in the 20th century, but since the 1980s, it has rediscovered the production of quality wines. The production of the Rhône Valley mainly focuses on black grape varieties: Syrah and Grenache above all.

It was probably the Greeks who began vine cultivation along the Rhône after settling on the Mediterranean coasts and traveling upstream along the river. However, it was the Romans who, after the foundation of the city of Vienne between 120 and 100 BC, planted the first vineyards on the terraces of the Hermitage hill and began the production of "vinum picatum" (described by the Roman historian Pliny the Elder), a wine made from a grape called Allobrogica and vinified in wooden barrels.

Today, the Rhône Valley is one of the most important French wine regions and over the years has carved out its space in the global wine scene.

The Rhône Valley is divided into two major areas: Northern Rhône and Southern Rhône. The Northern Rhône Valley includes these main appellations: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Château-Grillet, Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Saint-Joseph, Cornas, and Saint-Pèray. The Southern Rhône Valley includes these main appellations: Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Tavel, and Lirac, Muscat de Baumes-de-Venise, and Rasteau.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape

We are in the Southern Rhône Valley, a region that includes the town of Châteauneuf-du-Pape and fourteen surrounding communes, forming one of the most renowned wine regions in France.

The terroir of the region is extraordinarily diverse. The soil is a blend of sand, clay, and gravel, enriched with the characteristic "galets roulés," large rounded pebbles. These pebbles absorb heat during the day and release it slowly at night, helping to achieve optimal grape ripening even during cooler hours.

The warm, sunny climate of the Southern Rhône Valley is another key element. The Mistral, a cold and dry wind blowing from the Rhône Valley towards the Mediterranean, helps keep the vines dry, reducing the risk of fungal diseases. However, this strong wind can also cause excessive evaporation, creating challenges for vineyard water management.

This unique combination of soil, climate, and winemaking tradition makes the wines of Châteauneuf-du-Pape unmistakable, known for their structure, complexity, and aging potential.
