NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 pale straw yellow tending to golden with fine, persistent perlage;

👃🏻 on the nose a fresh bouquet with fruity scents of yellow fruit and citrus fruits, as well as hawthorn and elderflower;

👄 on the palate on first impact it has a fresh-tasting flavour with fruity and floral aromas, while the finish evolves into a slightly mineral note.

FOOD PAIRINGS

A fresh and fragrant classic method. For this reason it prefers fresh dishes characterised by fatness. Try it with aperitifs, first courses and fish-based main courses.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Pure Pinot Noir. Harvesting of this Metodo Classico is done manually and starts in the third week of August, followed by direct pressing of the fresh grapes; fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature in stainless steel. Once the vinification process is complete, refinement begins the following spring, when different fractions of base wine are assembled; in this way, the resulting cuvée will be bottled for re-fermentation. Then, after at least 36 months of refinement on its own yeasts, it is degorged and after a short rest in the bottle released for marketing.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its fragrance and freshness.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

The company is located in Oltrepò Pavese, in the municipality of Costa Callotti: an area with an excellent vocation for the production of grapes and wine: in fact, its viticultural history goes back at least 2000 years. The vine-growing area of 13,269 hectares, out of a regional total of 24,000, thus represents about 55% of the area under vine in Lombardy. The territory is hilly with steep slopes rising up to 1,700 metres above sea level in the first Apennines and more rounded ridges in the eastern area towards Piacenza. The hills of the Oltrepò offer a continuum of landscape of great attraction and represent the third largest Italian area for surface area almost entirely planted with vines and with production predominantly of the denomination. The variety of the territory, the proximity of the sea and the presence of rivers and streams influence the climate, which is mild and temperate, with excellent night and day excursions, especially in summer.

WINERY

Marchesi di Montalto was founded in 1996 with the determination to give continuity to the values, traditions and viticultural techniques of the century-old family business (founded in 1890) and to its philosophy, which considers the vine as the root of life. We are in the central Oltrepò, at an altitude of 500 metres, in an area dominated by the imposing castle of the Balduino counts. Their vineyards are planted with Pinot Noir, Riesling Renano and Pinot Grigio, together with the autochthonous vines Croatina, Riesling Italico and Moscato: the vineyards are located in the best cru of the municipalities of Pietra De Giorgi, Cigognola, Broni and Montalto Pavese. The Marchesi di Montalto Pavese winery is based in the latter municipality, which is renowned for its great vocation for vines and in particular for Pinot Noir and Riesling Renano. For years it has dedicated particular attention to the vinification of two specific vines: Pinot Noir and Riesling. In fact, today it is a "bi-varietal" company that vinifies only the best Pinot Noir and Riesling crus, bottling and marketing a varied range. Their vineyards are the result of intensive research to find vines that guarantee the highest quality standards.
