WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

The "Château Portal" by Paul Herpe et Fils is an elegant and complex Rouge, the fruit of grapes grown in the commune of Beaufort. The harvest is done by hand and in boxes, with selection of the best bunches in the vineyard, to guarantee the quality of the grapes. A part is vinified in the traditional way, at a controlled temperature, while the remainder is subjected to carbonic maceration.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are in Languedoc Roussillon, one of the largest and most productive regions in all of France, with a production that in recent years has increasingly focused on quality. The climate is Mediterranean and warm, in France it is one of the most favorable for the cultivation of vines, even if some areas are quite cool, such as the Minervois and Limoux hills, thanks to the slightly higher altitude.

The soils are mainly calcareous, schistose and stony, which form the characteristic garrigues, a rocky landscape interspersed with lush Mediterranean scrub. In these soils syrah and carignan grow well and give wines rich in structure, tannins and sapidity. In the plains the soils are alluvial and fertile and mainly grenache, cinsault and muscat are cultivated, obtaining wines richer in alcohol.

WINERY

In Narbonne, in the Languedoc-Roussillon region, between the Rhône and the Pyrenees, stands the Maison Paul Herpe et Fils. Founded way back in 1919, it is one of the most important and oldest wineries in the South of France, one of the most renowned and extensive territories in terms of wine production and relaxation. Languedoc-Roussillon owes its fame to its characteristic and pleasant Mediterranean atmosphere, to its varied landscapes, enclosed between sea and mountains, just a few steps away from sunny Spain. The diversity of territories and climates allows the soils to develop unique and particularly favorable characteristics for the cultivation of vines, for the production of quality wines.

In these areas there are whites, reds, rosés and the famous Vin Doux Naturel, natural sweet wines such as the AOC Banyuls. In 90 years of winemaking, based on love for the land and respect for tradition, the Paul Herpe et Fils winery boasts the experience of 3 generations. In favor of the continuous search for quality and territorial expression, the Maison has always integrated traditional practice with modern experiments and methods that have led it in recent years to produce excellent wines, appreciated all over the world. The winery produces different types of wines, coming from the two owned vineyards, Château Couderc and Le Clos des Oliviers, offering representative products such as the AOC Minervois, Fitou and Corbières, Blanquette de Limoux and the AOC Banyuls.
