TERRITORY OF ORIGIN

TERROR

Sicily is an area rich in history, art and culture, as well as ancient winemaking traditions. Sicily is also striking for the variety of its cuisine and the charm of its wines.

Sicily is the southernmost region of Italy, as well as the largest island in the Mediterranean. Around there are various islands of volcanic origin, while the eastern part is characterized by the presence of Etna.

The climate is predominantly Mediterranean, with hot summers and mild winters. In the coastal area however, it is subtropical. The climate in the interior, in the presence of the high hills, from 500 meters above sea level, is milder and with notable decreases in average temperatures.

From a geological point of view, the Sicilian region belongs to the African plate. The only exception is for the north-eastern part, that of Messina, which belongs to the Eurasian one, made up of the Apennine-Maghreibi chain.

The sliding of the African plate under the Eurasian one has determined not only the creation of the island's mountainous reliefs, but also the presence of frequent seismic activities, the causes of which are both tectonic and volcanic.

Sicily produces wines with a long history such as Marsala, but also fragrant dessert wines such as Passito di Pantelleria and Malvasia delle Lipari, without forgetting Moscato di Noto and Siracusa, robust red wines and interesting white wines.

These and many other wines are the architects of Sicily's oenological rebirth and have also made the grapes with which they are produced famous, such as Grillo, Catarratto, Inzolia, Zibibbo, Malvasia, Nero d'Avola, Nerello Mascalese.

Today the vineyard area in Sicily is equal to over 100,000 hectares of which 5% is in the mountains, 65% in the hills and the remainder in the plains. The region has only one DOCG (IL Cerasuolo di Vittoria) and 23 DOCs.

CELLAR

In the heart of Sicily, 60 km from Palermo, there is Bosco Falconeria, an ancient historic millstone.

Since 1989, the new generation has taken over the reins, embracing a viticulture oriented towards biodiversity and the abandonment of conventional agricultural practices that impoverish the soil.

On 17 hectares of organically cultivated land, among almond trees, lemons, medlars and other fruit plants, the Catarratto and Nero d'Avola grape varieties grow. Protecting biodiversity is the mission of this family company, which can count on trusted collaborators, an integral part of their history. Sustainability guides every stage of production, a conscious choice to preserve the environment and human well-being.
