NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 a beautiful bright ruby red;

👃🏻 at the nose it expresses a fruity bouquet (ripe red fruits) and flowers (purple), typical of the grape;

👄 on the palate it is soft and enveloping with a light tannin; excellent structure.

FOOD PAIRINGS

This Barbera is a full-bodied, soft wine with correct tannins, so we recommend trying it with food characterized by intensity and persistence in flavors. It pairs well with red meats and second courses.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

In Vicara, they say that when the crafty fox steals the grapes it is time for harvesting. Traditionally, they rely on experience to understand when grapes have reached perfect ripeness. In the "Massa" and "Sindaco" vineyards, the harvest is done by hand using small baskets to preserve the integrity of each single grape. Fermentation is with indigenous yeasts in steel vats with average maceration of 5-7 days where the malolactic fermentation takes place.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its intensity, pleasantness and softness.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

The area is Monferrato, one of the most important wine regions in the world, under Unesco heritage. The Barbera is produced in these suggestive hills: it's a truly extraordinary, versatile and fresh vine. In Monferrato the vineyards almost entirely cover the summits and slopes of the hills, alternating however with small woods, in an highly suggestive landscape. The wide diversity of soils allows for the production of very complex wines, with a broad bouquet.
The soils are calcareous-marly, white, light gray or beige in color, rich in calcium carbonate which allow to produce full-bodied wines, rich in color (especially in reds), sometimes with an intriguing hint of tuff, from ageing; red earths, the deepest and richest, as well as in clay and silt, in iron and magnesium oxides, perfect for producing white wines; the local sands produce excellent red wines characterized by low acidity and fast maturation. On these soils, in very dry years the vine can have water stress problems, since the higher percentage of sand does not allow the soil to retain water.

WINERY

Vicara Visconti Cassinis Ravizza is a renowned winery with deep roots in the wine culture of the region. The owned vineyards cover about thirty hectares that extend in very suitable positions, in five countries: Salabue, Serralunga di Crea, Ozzano, Treville and Rosignano Monferrato.

The vineyards, aged between 7 and 60 years, are grown using the traditional guyot method, with short pruning and low yields. The vineyard is cultivated through spontaneous grassing which guarantees a more balanced ripening of the berries, greater health of the grapes and the reconstitution of an ecosystem that drastically reduces the need for external interventions. Harvest is manual at the optimal moment of ripeness.
The pressing is carried out after careful selection of the grapes on the belt and the fermentation takes place at a controlled temperature, guaranteeing a vinification that enhances the fruity and intense aromas.
