ORIGIN

TERROIR

The winery is located in Coazzolo, in the Langhe, a UNESCO heritage site since 2014. It is a land of ancient winemaking traditions, where wine was already known before the arrival of the Romans. The empire made great contributions to viticulture, including the deforestation of a large part of the Langhe, then covered by dense woods. The Langhe are divided into Alta and Bassa Langa: the latter is located in the north between the Tanaro and Belbo rivers and is recognized throughout the world for prestigious wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco as well as Pelaverga, Dolcetto d'Alba and Dogliani in Nebbiolo and Barbera. The Alta Langa, on the other hand, is located further south and has steeper hills that even reach 750 meters; here Alta Langa, Moscato and Barbera and the rare Timorasso are produced. In particular, the Alta Langa, thanks to the cultivation of chardonnay and pinot noir over the years, has managed to produce classic method and charmat sparkling wines renowned nationally and internationally.

The soils of the Langhe are composed of clayey-limestone sedimentary marls, interspersed with layers of more or less important gray-blue marls, an important characteristic for producing both full-bodied red wines and fresh and fragrant bubbles. The Langhe area is characterized by a temperate continental climate, with the peak of rainfall generally set in the month of May.

WINERY

Cascina Carlot was founded by Mario Mo in the early years of the last century in Coazzolo, a small town located between the Monferrato and Langhe hills, in a landscape of rare beauty. Today the descendants of Mario are at the helm of the winery, who continue the business with the same philosophy and passion for their land.

In the 10 hectares of vineyards owned (in addition to the hazelnut grove and vegetable garden), Cascina Carlot enhances the typical varieties of the area such as Cortese, Arneis and Moscato, while among the red berried varieties they cultivate Nebbiolo, Grignolino, Dolcetto and Barbera, these last used for the production of Barbera d'Asti DOCG "Runc" and for Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG "La Vigna".

The wines created by the Mo family are a perfect representation of the territory, made with full respect for biodiversity and the local winemaking tradition. At the basis of the company philosophy, in fact, there are sustainability and innovation that respects tradition. Cascina Carlot is energetically self-sufficient thanks to the use of renewable sources.
