NOTES BY OUR SOMMELIERS

👁 A beautiful, rich and intense ruby red;

👃🏻 the nose expresses mainly fruity aromas, between cherry and raspberry, to which are added vanilla and spicy tertiary hints, for a rich and pleasant bouquet

👄 on the palate it is full-bodied, soft and with velvety tannins, characterised by an excellent persistence on the finish.

FOOD PAIRINGS

An intense, complex wine, with a beautiful structure and tannin that is present but never intrusive. This is why we recommend it with dishes that have succulence and intense aromatic persistence. Perfect with savoury main courses, white or red meat, but also game.

WINE-MAKING AND REFINEMENT

Sangiovese grapes, with Merlot and Cabernet as a balance, harvested and vinified with great care, for a red that matures in barriques for 15-18 months.

YOU WILL LOVE IT FOR...

its intensity and structure.

ORIGIN

TERROIR

We are in the homeland of Brunello di Montalcino. An area of 24,000 hectares, of which only 15% is occupied by vineyards. The hills of Montalcino have numerous pedological environments due to having been formed in different geological eras.

The soil is enriched with skeleton while the active layer is reduced, being soils formed by the decomposition of original rocks. The climate is typically Mediterranean, tending to be dry, but also with continental connotations given the intermediate position between the sea and the Central Apennines. Rainfall is concentrated in the spring and late autumn months (annual average 700 mm). In winter, snowfall is possible above 400 metres. The mid-hill areas are rarely affected by fog, frost or late frost, also due to the frequent presence of wind, which guarantees the best conditions for the health of the plants. To the south, Monte Amiata, at an altitude of 1,740 metres, protects the Brunello area from atmospheric phenomena such as cloudbursts and hailstorms. During the entire vegetative phase of the vine, the climate is predominantly mild with a high number of clear days that ensure a gradual and complete ripening of the grapes.

The presence on the territory of slopes with different orientations, the marked modulation of the hillsides and the altimetrical difference between the valley areas and the higher terrain result in very different climatic micro-environments, even in areas that are very close to each other. The most widespread form of training in the vineyard is the spurred cordon, obtained by short pruning of a variable number of trunks per vine.

WINERY

Owned by Cosimo Loia since 1983, Palazzo is a winery steeped in history, on the south-eastern side of Montalcino. The estate's buildings are very old and date back to the 17th century: over the years they have been restored to meet the needs of modern viticulture. All stages of the production chain, from the cultivation of the vines to the sale of the wine, are directly taken care of by the family. The grapes are harvested by hand in the 4 hectares of vineyards, exposed to the sun from dawn to dusk and well protected from cold winds. An area for ageing the wine has been created in the old farmhouse, while a new, functional structure has been built for vinification, bottling, storage and bottle ageing.

Production is limited (about 22,000 bottles per year) because the Loia family has always maintained a line of thinking that favours quality. The Palazzo labels always achieve excellent quality, reflecting the integrity and dedication to production that drives the family.
