Step #19
Stage #19 of the Sommelier Wine Box (October 2019, led by sommelier Guido Beltrami ) was dedicated to small terroirs, great wines .
The concept of terroir , a word that is still untranslatable in our language, expresses the interaction between the vine, the land on which it is grown and the climatic conditions in which it is found. This concept is often transferred in an excellent way in the designations of origin, and in the production regulations that regulate areas, grapes, and winemaking methods. Thus it happens (in Italy but also in France and Spain) that in the denominations where the qualitative intent is shared (and, sometimes, the vineyard ownership is more fragmented) some denominations over the years manage to stand out more than others, in the eyes of wine critics and of consumers. Certainly these wines, also favored by more stringent rules, express high quality and production techniques that aim to maximize the characteristics of the grapes. But it happens that other terroirs, where some vines are capable of giving exceptional oenological results, are more difficult to make themselves known, appreciated and consumed with equal fanfare. This selection aims at this: lesser-known territories or vines, cultivated and vinified by hands that give rise to excellent wines . Here are the wineries we discovered together: Le Calle , Vigneti Massa , Torre degli Alberi andFiorano .
