Step #14
Stage #14 of the Sommelier Wine Box (May 2019, led by the great Carlo Pagano - best sommelier in Abruzzo and Molise) was dedicated to Molise, which exists and produces great wines !
In fact, wine has been produced in this region since before the Romans. The Samnite Pentri tribe already knew the art of viticulture and later Pliny praised the wines of Isernia as among the best in Italy. If in the eighteenth century the vine was widespread in the internal areas of Molise, it was the following century that the desire to enhance its oenological resources exploded. But migration and the disastrous events of the Second World War sanctioned a tragic abandonment of vine cultivation, especially in inland areas. In the last 20 years, together with the general desire to return to tradition , Molise companies are rediscovering their native vines, such as the famous Tintilia, standard-bearer of the regional rebirth, with a niche production that amazes even the most demanding palates for its "non approval". It is a vine found only in Molise, the region that exists and resists ! So here are the wineries we discovered together: Tenimenti Grieco , San Zenone and Campi Valerio .
