Stage #20 of the Sommelier Wine Box (November 2019, led by sommelier Massimo Marchesi ) was dedicated to wines that grow near river, lake and sea water:
Wine is a living thing, it's like a person. How people are influenced - in character - by the place where they are born, grows and lives. With this selection we highlight the personality of the wines that have their "roots in water " because they grow near the sea, the lake and the river. In particular: the Metauro river in the north of the Marche, which digs its bed among the tufaceous soils where the Bianchello and Sangiovese vineyards are located (vineyards that draw an unmistakable and profound mark from it), Lake Bolsena in the province of Viterbo , of volcanic origin, which gives the mineral skeleton to wines which are also enriched in the aromatic component, aided by the thermal excursion determined by the body of water, and the splendid sea of the Gulf of Oristano in Sardinia, which with its sandy soils and alluvial and constant ventilation enriches the wines with body and flavour.
