Trentino wines are experiencing growing popularity today, and in fact for some years now. What are the reasons for this success? We see it in 5 simple points.
Trentino is an area of extraordinary viticultural vocation . It presents varied conditions, suitable for different vines, despite the fact that it is a rather small and mainly mountainous area.
From the Classic Method to mountain whites, from structured reds to sweet wines, Trentino wines are characterized by great elegance, very fresh aromas and because they are extremely pleasant to drink.
Twenty years ago it wasn't like this but today Trentino is famous above all for its whites (70% of the grapes harvested are light berries), although the red vines are also varied, including lagrein, teroldego, marzemino and pinot noir .
They all derive their value from a great territorial diversity , masterfully orchestrated by man.
We have tried to summarize some of the reasons for the growing popularity of Trentino wines, in 5 simple points:
1- QUALITY OF TRENTINO WINES
This seems to be the primary key, pursued in the past and to always be pursued with determination, sacrificing on quantity.
2- CHOICE OF THE MOST SUITABLE VARIETIES
Trentino viticulture benefits from a careful choice of the most suitable vines for the various areas based on the climate, soil, exposure and altitude. Trentino winemakers have selected the right grapes for the various terroirs , creating an optimal relationship with the pedoclimatic environment: we are faced with a mosaic of microclimates that allows each vine to be grown in the most suitable area.
3- PREFERENCE FOR THE FINE VARIETIES OF THE TRENTINO TRADITION
This aspect brings with it the need to select, in contrast to the indiscriminate diffusion of too many viticultural varieties.
4- PROMOTION OF TRENTINI WINES
But also of gastronomic traditions and tourism, to increase the value of all the territorial offerings. In Trentino we are witnessing a virtuous and mutual relationship of valorization between food and wine and tourism with the aim of preserving tradition, both rural and historical-artistic.
5- IDEAL ENVIRONMENT FOR BUBBLES
The vineyard lands of Trentino - generally calcareous - are mostly found at altitude, with very different exposures. These characteristics recall some of the happiest situations in Champagne.
Trento DOC - the Trentino sparkling wine based on Chardonnay (and/or Pinot Noir and/or Meunier and/or Pinot Bianco) - is a sparkling wine with a precise stylistic bearing: great finesse and fragrance, marked fruity notes, balanced acidity, elegance.
In January 2019, we proposed a Trentino selection , selected by the Trentino Roberto Anesi (best AIS sommelier 2017) selecting small and promising Trentino wineries.
