Canus is a small family-run winery, located in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Our vineyards are mainly located on the Gramogliano hill (with a breathtaking view of the Italian-Slovenian hills and an ideal south-east exposure) and a small part in nearby Prepotto. 16 hectares of vineyards.

Once covered by the sea, our land is particularly suited to the cultivation of vines: this is the ponca , with its alternating layers of Eocene marl and sandstone. And while to the east the Julian Prealps protect the vineyards from the cold northern currents, the proximity to the Adriatic Sea guarantees beneficial and constant ventilation for the vineyard.

Here at Canus we celebrate the intrinsic qualities of Friuli, above all favoring the cultivation of native vines such as Friulano, Ribolla Gialla and Pignolo, without however neglecting the international ones (Pinot Grigio, Chardonnay and Merlot).

Canus comes from the Latin " white-haired, senile" : the word explicitly recalls the value of wisdom . Ours is in fact a small company that celebrates tradition, the territory, all washed down with a good dose of Friulian know-how .

But the name also reflects my personal experience: I left the countryside when I was young to pursue my dreams, and now that I have become white-haired I have returned, returning to my origins, to this rich and generous land.

We select and harvest the grapes by hand, in boxes. The pressing is soft and delicate; careful and personalized winemaking for each variety; appropriately thermoregulated fermentation. The maturation of the wines takes place in steel and wood. Our reds, given their particular structure, refine for a long time in barriques and tonneaux .

What matters to us are not large numbers, it never will be. We pursue the quality of our wines, which is in first place and always will be .
